Next morning, we checked the bikes over and I found a couple of bolts were missing holding the panniers together, so I called a mechanic to have a look. They were quite busy, so took a while to arrive, but were able to find some new bolts and make it more stable again. Then we headed off. We stopped for lunch before long and we could see heavy rain in the distance. We bided our time with coffee and ice cream and waited for the rain to pass and it was a good plan as it was pretty heavy. Once it was dry, we continued on, but the roads were wet and slippery, so we rode extra cautiously. Eventually it was time to stop and we found a monastery that was doing accommodation. We had a look round and admired their impressive 13th century frescos before dinner.
