Next morning, we continued our journey up the hill, through some villages and onto Transalpina pass. This wound its way up the mountain with some dramatic twists, turns and hairpins. Eventually we reached the top with dramatic views in all directions. We continued on to another summit, with many visitors, where we stopped for lunch of lamb/goat on the bone with polenta. Clearly a local favourite, but we didn't get anyone who spoke English to clarify what it was. It was tasty, but bony! We continued back down, through more fun, twisty roads. At the bottom was a big lake with many tourists. Then lots more twisty, fun roads up and down all the way to Sebes. From here we took the main, but not motorway route past Sibiu and looked for accommodation just before the Transfagarasan pass. The hotels were full so we went to Cartisoara and eventually (many were full) found one that could put us up. Before we went for dinner, it was time for the cows to come home. The cows, bulls and water buffaloes came down the road looking for their homes. The family we were staying with had 8, and sure enough, their ones turned right and went to their cattle shed. We went out for dinner and had some tasty meat options.
